Julie Anne San Jose's Album Exceeds Triple Platinum, GMA Records Ends Q1 of 2013 on a High Note!

GMA Records ends the first quarter of 2013 on a high note as it hands out its first Triple Platinum Record award, releases movies and documentaries on DVD and a new hip hop album on CD.

After 3 successive hit singles, Julie Anne San Jose’s self-titled debut solo album exceeded the Triple Platinum Record status with over 45,000 units sold in combined CD and digital sales.  The award was recently handed out by the Chairman of the Phil. Association of the Record Industry (PARI) to Julie Anne in Party Pilipinas.

Moreover, Julie Anne’s carrier single “I’ll Be There” has already exceeded the Double Platinum Digital Single mark, as certified by PARI, with over 375,000 downloads so far.

GMA Records also released 2 movies on home video format (DVD) – “The Road” and “Just One Summer”.  “The Road”, a psychological suspense thriller which was also commercially released in the U.S. last year, received rave reviews during its theater run. Directed by Yam Laranas, the movie stars Carmina Villaroel, Marvin Agustin, Rhian Ramos, Barbie Forteza and TJ Trinidad and is co-starred by Alden Richards, Louise delos Reyes, Derrick Monasterio, Lexi Fernandez, Renz Valerio and Ynna Asistio.

On the other hand, “Just One Summer”, a light romantic drama starring the loveteam of Julie Anne San Jose and Elmo Magalona and directed by Mac Alejandre, tells the story of two childhood friends who meet again one summer and while comforting one another in dealing with each other’s problems eventually fall for each other.

The first quarter of 2013 also saw the release of 2 GMA News and Public Affairs documentaries on DVD.  “Oras Na”, hosted by Richard Gutierrez, is an environmental documentary which gives us an insight into the current plight of and critical challenges faced by Mother Nature.

Also out now on DVDs is “The Best of i-Witness vol. 6” featuring 8 documentaries by Howie Severino, Kara David, Sandra Aguinaldo and Jay Taruc like “Gintong Putik”, “Pasan-pasan”, and “Lapnos”  which have received awards locally and internationally.

And just before the quarter ended, GMA Records released the latest album of Blanktape, the man behind the hits “Jejemon”, “Pechay” and “Hayahay”.  Entitled “Sana’y Mapansin”, the album contains 10 tracks and a bonus cut, including the carrier single “Siomai” which is now enjoying favorable airplay on the airwaves.

In the coming months, watch out for the albums of Kris Lawrence, the pop-alternative band Persephone, new artist Shiela Valderrama, as well as a compilation of Bubble Gang’s funny gags in “The Best of Bubble Gang vol. 2”.
