SM Grand Central’s Matcha Festival Empowers Local MSMEs

As Filipino consumers shift into the holiday mindset, SM City Grand Central is giving local entrepreneurs a timely opportunity to introduce their products to new customers through its Matcha Takeover, a campaign that brings together homegrown micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) around one of the country’s increasingly popular food trends.

Officially launched on September 21, the campaign features 16 local MSME exhibitors on Level 3 of SM City Grand Central, offering shoppers a selection of matcha drinks, desserts, pastries, handcrafted gelato, specialty coffee, crafts and other matcha-inspired creations.

Participating businesses include Plates and Beans, Milky Dangooo, Traveler’s Point Café, Kohana Matcha, AB Matcha, Somedae Café, Karamel bakes and brews, Curbside Creamery, Yume Matcha, Yadori Cha, Arreese Cafe, Kapeng Lako, MPB Crafts, Sweetbakes Cafe and Cakes, Atarashi Matcha and Love, Portia.

More than a showcase of the matcha trend, the campaign underscores the role of retail spaces in helping local MSMEs introduce their products, engage directly with consumers and strengthen their brands.

The timing is particularly relevant as September marks the start of the holiday buildup, when consumers begin looking for products for celebrations, gifts and gatherings. For small businesses, establishing a presence during this period can help attract new customers and build momentum as the Christmas season approaches.

The Matcha Takeover also highlights how local entrepreneurs are incorporating matcha into a range of products, from beverages to handcrafted creations. The variety of participating businesses reflects the different ways MSMEs are responding to consumer interest while developing products around a shared theme.

The activation likewise features workshops and activities that give shoppers opportunities to explore the matcha theme. These activities provide MSMEs with additional avenues to introduce their products, receive feedback and connect with their customers.

By bringing local businesses into the mall environment, SM City Grand Central provides participating MSMEs with a venue to showcase their products and expand their market reach. The campaign is part of the mall’s efforts to create opportunities for MSMEs to showcase their offerings and build brand visibility among shoppers.

The Matcha Takeover is part of SM City Grand Central’s Yummyfest Campaign and will continue until September 30 on Level 3 of the mall, from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. (The Lifestyle Portal)
