Dioceldo“Deo” Sy has always believed in making quality yet affordable products and services easily accessible to Filipinos. Often referred to as the father of cosmetics in the Philippines, owing to his reputation for bringing a slew of makeup brands within reach of Filipinos masses, Sy founded Ever Bilena  in 1983 from humble beginnings of peddling nail polish along the busy streets of Manila. In just a short span of two years, he  managed to expand his business into a full cosmetics brand with seven brands under its umbrella, hundreds of product variants and retail outlets across the Philippines.

Despite the immense success of Ever Bilena and its fast-expanding portfolio of quality cosmetics, his products remain reasonably priced to cater to different demographics and classes in the country, especially the C and D.

This is the same strategy he has always adhered to in his other businesses, and will continue to do so as he embarks on a new venture with BC Net, an internet service provider in the Philippines with an aim to bring Wi-Fi to far-flung remote areas.

“Our guiding principle at Ever Bilena is ‘looking good is no longer a luxury’ because we want ordinary Filipinos to have access to our cosmetic products. This time, I’d like to take the same principle as I venture in wireless communications by making internet access available to all Filipinos across the country, especially in the remote areas,” shared Sy.

With its rapid expansion, BC Net has been tapping the huge demand for internet in the country by expanding its prepaid internet service that targets the unserved and underserved markets in the Philippines. With a strategy to utilize satellite and very small aperture terminal (VSAT) system, BC Net is quickly gaining entry to these markets. It was also a big boost that the internet service provider won the Free Wi-Fi For All bid conducted by the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT).

Sy has strongly supported BC Net’s Free Wi-Fi For All initiative because he feels very strongly about importance of education in improving the lives of  poor Filipinos, especially those in far-flung provinces.  “This is in line with our stance that the internet is no longer a luxury but a necessity especially to the education of Filipinos.”

With Free Public Wi-Fi For All, public places in 20 provinces now enjoy internet, including Aurora, Batanes, Camarines Sur, Guimaras, Maguindanao, Romblon, Samar, Southern Leyte, Agusan Del Sur, Bohol, Catanduanes, Davao Del Norte, Davaor Oriental, Eastern Samar, Marinduque, Masbate, Northern Samar, Palawan, Sorsogon, Surigao Del Norte, and Kalayaan.

Sy also relates that during some of the biggest calamities in the country, BC Net, because it is satellite-based, played an important role in  providing  much-needed signal for communication in devastated areas: Together with DICT Luzon, BC Net offered free information and communications technology (ICT) services to include internet connectivity utilizing (VSAT) system, free charging and free satellite phone calls for essential communications to Palaweños during Typhoon Odette. The same services were also offered in Catanduanes during Typhoon Rolly.

Without a doubt, BC Net’s capabilities is wide-ranging. While it provides free internet in remote areas, its core strengths also include provide internet connectivity to companies for their offices and sites. It installs Wi-Fi in public places such as coffee shops, fast food chains, dormitories, hospitals and school buildings, to service its’ clients customers. Aside from that, the company also offers Voice Over Internet Platform (VOIP), Subscription Revenues from Internet Customers, Pre-paid Wi-Fi Cards, Internet Installation Contracts, Sale of Apps and Hardware, Hosting Internet-Related Service Demands.

With this latest business venture with BC Net, Dioceldo Sy has once again provided a new avenue to ensure that Filipinos are granted the essential services that they deserve.
