What’s a fun family activity that is highly affordable and contributes to our well-being? Well, walking around parks and other open spaces is one great idea. Weekends in UP Diliman is proof of this growing phenomenon with individual joggers/runners, barkadas and families walking leisurely (or speed walking, for the fitness enthusiasts) around the academic oval.

And then, of course, we have watching TV as another favorite way to while away the time with the family. With the current trend of staycations (vacation spent at home -  the emerging trend in light of rising fuel costs and other travel expenses), the TV remains ensconced as a major source of entertainment (and information) during such stay-at-home downtimes. Also, the 2011 Nielsen Audience Measurement Report revealed that TV is still the most popular media platform in the country.

To wit, walking + family + (child sensitive) TV = Anak TV Fun Family Walk.

On 27 January 2013 (Sunday) the Anak TV organizes the first ever Anak TV Fun Family Walk at the UP Diliman grounds as a homage to the most important institution there is – the family. The event runs from 6 am to 10 am. Expect a fair or carnival atmosphere as the various broadcast networks launch a wide array of gimmicks to engage the general public.

Anak TV, the premiere organization that bats for child-friendly TV fare, decided that is high time to embark on a simple celebration to highlight the importance of family bonding and the key role of television during these bonding moments.

Says Elvira Yap Go, Anak TV President, “Child sensitive television is imperative if we are to preserve the integrity of the Filipino family.”

She adds she is very thankful that all the networks discard competition and really work together whenever Anak TV sounds the clarion call for collective action. “Every year, during our Anak TV Awards, our networks are all-out in supporting our program and ceremony. And now, with this fund-raising, they are still solidly behind us,” continues Ms Go.

In fact, no less than GMA Chairman and CEO Atty Felipe L Gozon will lead the special culminating program of the Anak TV Fun Family Walk on the 27th of January. Atty Gozon says that family is at the heart of the Kapuso Network’s thrusts in delivering quality programs (both in News and Public Affairs and Entertainment).

“We try to have a healthy balance of TV fare that’s suited for adults and kids – there is something for everyone at the appropriate timeslot,” he explains.

The Kapuso Network’s head honcho affirms that while networks are all competing for ratings and revenues, each station is committed to giving the best to the Filipino family – which is the primary audience of local television.

“While business is business, raising a good family is probably the most noble of all endeavors. The Kapuso Network tries its best to provide the Filipino family with meaningful entertainment programs and relevant news and information,” he said.

Joining Atty Gozon at the culminating program of the Anak TV Fun Family Walk are executives from other networks and Manila Archbishop Luis Antonio Cardinal Tagle.

The GMA Network booth at the Anak TV Fun Family Walk promises lots of surprises that will spell fun for the whole family, especially the young ones. Kapuso stars will also be on hand to for photo opportunities.
