MANILA, 20 JUNE, 2012 – At a media event held in 7th High – Manila’s favorite celebrity hot-spot, Yahoo! Philippines unveiled an exciting line-up of events, a stellar list of performers, new categories and enhanced voting options while offering a sneak preview into the upcoming Yahoo! OMG! Awards. The search- and poll-based awards has already garnered 2.2 million votes since its launch two weeks ago on Yahoo! OMG!
Set to take place in Mall of Asia Arena on July 6, the awards honor Philippines’ most favorite celebs, emerging stars and dedicated fans who have trended the most on Yahoo! Search over the past year.
Acknowledging the significant search trends seen this year by Yahoo! users for radio shows, fan clubs and trending child stars, OMG! Awards added new categories to recognize the contributions of DJs and radio stations that promote Original Pilipino Music and shine a spotlight on the fans and emerging talents supporting the Philippines’s entertainment industry as a whole.
The media gathering attracted popular celebrities including ABS CBN’s Shamsey Supsup, TV5’s Eula Caballero, GMA7’s Bela Padilla, DJs Sam YG, Christsuper Nicole Hyala and Tracy Abad, fan club representatives AshRald, Dongyans and Julielmo and the hosts of Boys Night Out and The Morning Rush shows, who are in the running to be voted ‘the best of the best’ in the 26 coveted titles that pay tribute to their contribution to the entertainment industry. In total, 129 nominees have been short-listed by Yahoo! editors after tallying millions of search queries between March 2011 and March 2012 on Yahoo!’s No 1 entertainment property in the Philippines, Yahoo! OMG!
This year, Yahoo! opened another avenue for avid fans to vote via mobile, reinforcing the country’s status as the SMS capital of the world. Powered by Sun Cellular, fans can now have more access to vote for their favorite stars via SMS to #2222. Voting for these web celebs is also available online on Yahoo! at http://ph.omg.yahoo.com/omgawards/.
Hosted by Raymond Gutierrez and the “It girls” – the Call Me Maybe ladies: Solenn Heusaff, Isabelle Daza and Georgina Wilson, the night of the awards will be a dance, fashion and music extravaganza with performances by DJ Mars Miranda, Bailes de Luces, Urbandub, Wolfgang
Julie Anne San Jose, Elmo Magalona, Addlib Dancers, G Force, Solenn Heussaff and Lovi Poe, making it the most iconic event for the entertainment industry this year. Under the supervision of the noted stage director Rico Guttierez, the ceremony is set to be a grand celebration illuminating the entertainment industry’s brightest stars and their stellar fans.
